On January 20th a special conference called “Wake up, Rosetta” will take place in Darmstadt, Germany. On that day the European Space Agency (ESA) will wake up the space probe Rosetta from its hibernation in where it has been dormant for the last 30 months.

In addition to ESA’s principal representatives, Centrum Badań Kosmicznych PAN visiting Professor - Wlodek Kofman will also be attending. He will participate in the ”Rosetta Lander science” session discussion. Prof. Kofman works for the Institute of Paleontology and Astrophysics (Grenoble, France) where he was a director for many years and in which he prepared CONSERT experiment for the Rosetta mission.
Rosetta is ESA’s space mission, one of the mission aim is to reach  the 67P/Czuriumov-Gierasimienko comet and the entrance to its orbit, and the second is to separate the lander from the orbiter, which settles on the cometary nucleus and will direct its research, using, inter alia, devices that were built in CBK PAN. So far, no other probe could enter the comet’s orbit, and what’s more, no other probe ever landed on its nucleus - Rosetta is going to be the first one.

More about Rosetta’s mission can be found soon on  www.cbk.waw.pl
