The Space Research Centre is an interdisciplinary institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences,  specialized in studying physical phenomena and processes in the solar system, with particular emphasis on the Earth's environment.

The research conducted includes the Earth’s ionosphere and plasma, solar plasma, interplanetary and interstellar atmospheres and surfaces of planets, small solar system bodies, and also research associated with the movement of artificial satellites and their use for determining the figure and gravitational field of Earth and Earth's orientation in space.

The PAS SRC also develops  practical methods of using satellites for navigation, geodesy, remote sensing, telecommunications, etc.

Many projectss are run in the framework of international programs coordinated by specialized space agencies, such as:
- European Space Agency (ESA)
- The U.S. Space Agency (NASA)
- The Russian Space Agency (Roskosmos)

The PAS SRC has participated in several international space missions. In the years 1977-2005, a total of 52 PAS SRC built instruments were launched into space onboard rockets, artificial satellites and interplanetary probes.

The obtained results are published in leading international scientific journals. Overall in the years 1992-2005 the PAS SRCemployees published 1352 scientific papers in print.
